Answers to some commonly asked questions about OP Rugby

How do I join OP Rugby?

Players can join us by coming to one of our open registrations at Orchard Park Middle School:

Saturday January 12th from 8:00am until 12:00 noon
- or-
 Tuesday January 15th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

 Or better yet, you can signup using online registration form.

Before playing or practicing with the club we require the following:

  • Payment of registratiopn fee:
    $125.00 for players in grades 9-12
    $75.00 for players in grades 7 & 8
  • Proof of current medical insurance
  • Completed OP Rugby registration. (Either paper form or online)
  • Completed and signed OP Rugby Transportation waiver
  • Completed and signed USA Rugby Waiver form
  • Completed and signed USA Rugby Emergency Medical Information form.

Do I have to attend Orchard Park Schools to play?

No. The OP Rugby Club is a community based program and is open to anyone in Western New York.

I have never played rugby before. Can I still join?

Absolutely!
Everyone who has joined OP Rugby since our inception has had zero rugby experience before joining us.

The OP Rugby coaches have a combined 100+ years of experience playing and coaching rugby. We will teach you what you need to get started, and continue to help you develop your skills to be the best player you can be.

I do not have health insurance. Can I play?

No. Every player must provide OP Rugby with proof of current medical insurance. This is not negotiable, and no player will be allowed to play or practice with the club until we have your proof of insurance on file.

What does it cost to play?

The registreation fee is $125.00 for players in grades 9-12, and $75.00 for p[layers in grades 7 and 8.

Each player receives game shorts, game socks, an OP Rugby club t-shirt and a mouthguard. Your registration fee also pays for player registration with USA Rugby, the national governing body of the sport.

The remaining money is used by the team to pay for equipment, league fees, referees, and other administrative expenses.

Can I pay dues over time?

No. Dues are payable in full at the time of registration. Players registering online must pay their dues in person at their first practice.

Are my dues refundable?

No they are not. Shorts, socks and club t-shirts are ordered based on player registrations and refunds are not possible. You will receive your shorts, socks and shirt regardless of whether you decide to continue with the club.

Can I play or practice without paying dues?

No. You cannot play or practice without full payment of dues.

Do I have to buy my own uniform?

Players receive game shorts and socks as part of their dues. The club supplies game jerseys and any other necessary equipment.

Do I have to make all of the practices in order to play?

Players are expected to attend as many practices as they are available for. If you cannot attend a practice, you are expected to notify one of your coaches beforehand.

Who decides who plays?

The coaches for each team select starting lineups and substitutes. Everyone who comes to practice is eligible to play that week and everyone plays.
